This weekend saw the Cambridgeshire Mens’ compete in the second round of the ICC at Hunts County Squash Club. With Yorkshire dropping out, there was just the one fixture against Worcestershire.
First on Court were Nick Brown at three and Ali Carrington, who stepped up last minute to replace the injured Scott Drewery, at number five. Nick got off to a flying start and took the first two games decisively, before losing a close third game. Brownie managed to regroup and closed out the match in the forth game. Meanwhile, Ali narrowly lost the first game, before succumbing to the experienced play of his opponent in three games.
Following on were Rob Dadds at one and Colin Griggs at four. Griggsy narrowly lost the first game, before crucially taking the second in a tie-break. The next two were smooth sailing for Colin and he secured the win. Rob managed to win in three vs the experienced Worcestershire number one, and the tie was secured for Cambridgeshire.
Last on court was Mike Bull, taking one on the talented Worcestershire number two Oliver Rawlins. Mike battled hard and played some fantastic winners, but ultimately the pace and sharpness of Ollie was too much and Mike went down in three.
A good outing for Cambridgeshire who win Group Y of region two. Full results as follows:
Cambridgeshire 3-2 Worcestershire
Robert Dadds 3-0 Adam Stevenson
Mike Bull 0-3 Oliver Rawlins
Nick Brown 3-1 Jake Eden
Colin Griggs 3-1 Jack Lubke
Ali Carrington 0-3 John Parkes
