Senior Ladies Stage 2 vs Middlesex 1

The Cambridgeshire ladies took on Middlesex in the promotion weekend after our victory last half.

Representing Cambridgeshire for the first time at senior level, Casey Miller took on an experienced masters player, Jillian Lilico, at 5th string. After getting off to a great start, Casey didn't perform as well as her opponent got into her stride and lost 3-0. Sarah Howlett, fresh from the semi of the O55 British Nationals, at 3rd string, took on Emily Peach, former Oxford University no. 1. Unfortunately Emily proved too strong as Sarah found it difficult to find her length and she lost 3-0.

With the team 2-0 down, Ali Hemingway, captain, at 1st string and Kate Bradshaw, O35 England player, at 2nd string took on Selina Sinclair, former world no. 93, and Lisa May, England O35 player, respectively. Ali won 3-0 to bring the team their first win of the day, and Kate was also looking good as she managed to bring her match to 2-2. Unfortunately, a bad start in the fifth meant Kate's, and the team's, hopes of victory for the day were over.

However, Reka Burmeister, at string 4, with support from the whole team, was yet to get on court against Eva Feredoes, with toddler in tow, determined to get another rubber on the board for Cambridgeshire. In a thrilling match, with Reka making some incredible gets and three of the games went to setting, the match ultimately went to Eva 14-12 in the fifth.

Cambridgeshire can be proud of how they contested the match, against a much more populous county, and congratulations go to all of the team. Well done!
