The Junior Ladder reflects the outcome of matches played that are considered “Ladder Challenges”.

Note it is not a ranking system like that used by ESR which reflects the outcome through accumulated points of different ESR tournaments entered.

Ladder Challenge Definition:-

  • A Ladder Challenge is the outcome of a match played through one of the following:-
  • County Closed matches
  • Junior League matches
  • End of Season Tournament matches
  • A personally arranged match between two players on the Ladder
  • Local club tournaments where the players are told that the matches will be played as Ladder Challenges
  • Other arranged Tournaments where the players are told that the matches will be played as Ladder Challenges

Ladder Challenge outcome:-

  • If the winner of the Ladder Challenge is below the runner up on the Ladder, then he/she is moved to a place above the runner up
  • If the winner of the Ladder Challenge is above the runner up on the Ladder, then no action is taken

Ladder Challenge Format:-

  • The Ladder Challenge match shall be best of 3 or 5 games
  • For County Closed, End of Season, existing inter club league games and personal challenges, the matches shall be PAR 11 best of 5 games
  • For all other tournaments/events the number of matches and points shall be set by the tournament/event organiser
  • Note the Brian Fielding Tournament is excluded as the matches are time restricted

Arranging a personal Challenge:-

  • If you would like to challenge a player on the ladder, please call the player and arrange the match
  • The challenger should travel and the challenged player will organise the court
  • Any challenges not met within one month will result in a walkover to the challenger
  • Ladder results to davebradbury@tiscali.co.uk Dave Bradbury 07799 602270

Creating a new Ladder at beginning of season:-

  • A new ladder shall be created at the beginning of each season, comprising all players from the Junior County Closed
  • Those players from the Junior County Closed existing on the previous season’s ladder shall be initially placed in their previous ladder positions on the new ladder
  • The outcome of the Junior County Closed shall then be incorporated
  • Existing and new players shall be incorporated based on the outcome of their matches in the Junior County Closed
    • As this method does not necessarily take into account the relative positions of the different age groups (because they don't play each other), there shall be adjustments made to cater for this
    • This adjustment shall be made through consultation of the Junior Organisers
    • This adjustment shall not allow any change of position of two players that was established through the outcome of the Junior County Closed
    • This may mean that time of play has significance

Every year in accordance with the schedule set out by ESR, the Junior County Championships are held. This is normally late September.
All age groups are encouraged. In some years due to the low entries some age groups have been omitted. The U11 age groups are now played as separate boys and girls with the increasing numbers. Each age group is usually now played out on one day with the kind of entry we receive.
There is usually a sponsor to provide prizes, and over recent years it has been Dunlop. In signing up to the sponsorship the County accepts to play with Dunlop approved balls in all matches (Tournaments, Leagues, Inter County etc.)

This Tournament is run in memory of Brian Fielding who was an inspirational Junior Coach in the County but who unfortunately passed away after a brief illness in July 2005.
Brian was dearly liked by all of those he came into contact with through his coaching across the County.
He lived in St Ives and was based at St Ivo, where he developed the strengths of a formidable Junior Section.
He was responsible for coaching and managing the County boys teams, including his two sons Matt and Steve, both of whom were Junior Champions in their day.
The format of the tournament has changed slightly over the years, with the latest being set age groups playing monrad with time limit set on play.
